POINT OF VIEW

We must not see ageing as a liability.  Rather, we should celebrate extended life expectancies and advance opportunities to better engage our older adults.

Paulin Tay Straughan

Professor of Sociology

In brief

  1. Singapore's ageing population raises concerns about rising chronic conditions and social isolation among older adults.
  2. SMU’s Centre For Research On Successful Ageing (ROSA) uses a multidisciplinary approach to empower the ageing population of Singapore.
  3. There needs to be a societal shift in viewing the ageing population from burdens to valuable contributors to society.
