SMU PDLS: The Digital Cities of the Future: How can we embrace, engage and thrive?
Change is constant, change will always continue, and change happens at every level now.
Amit Midha
In brief
- Change happens at various levels sometimes slower sometimes faster. Leaning into the change will serve you better but it does not mean submitting to change without using your own mind, heart and soul.
- The city being the provider of the quality of life, is at the centre of change and the leading platform for managing changes. Mr Midha defined a "digital city" as a thriving city creating exponential opportunities, managing differences, and solves existential challenges. He also cited Toyota Woven City, NEOM of Saudi Arabia, New York City, and Dubai as examples of Digital Cities adapting to modern technological changes, practices, and leadership.
- Amidst the pandemic situation in which people seem to be disconnected in some aspects of life, technology still plays a significant role in maintaining critical human connections. Experts are building collaboration hubs in the cities where people can interact even if they are not physically present in the office to balance the current environment and health situation. Another consideration is simplifying these technological interactions and changes for all ages. This will benefit society by minimising disconnectedness and exclusiveness.
