As the global economy evolves, emerging Asian markets are at a pivotal juncture, due to the changing dynamics in US and EU economies. With the inception of the Trans-Pacific Partnership and other developments in large economies like China, India and Japan, a strong understanding of politics is vital for stability and seizing opportunities for growth.
Mr Robert Zoellick, a stalwart in international economics, discussed navigating these complex economic landscapes. Drawn from his rich experience as President of the World Bank (2007-2012), US Trade Representative (2001 to 2005), and Deputy Secretary of State (2005 to 2006), he explored opportunities at hand, possible points of tension and the United States' role in the global economy.
-
A country needs to focus on structural reforms to boost productivity and growth.
-
The United States is still the primary global power, but it needs to work with allies and partners to maintain its influence.
-
Solving wealth inequality with economic redistribution weakens the social fabric. Equality of opportunity should be the focus instead.
